The Wildcats led most of the game, and were able to execute their boring and patient offense with exquisite precision. At the end of the first three periods, they held for the last possession for excruciatingly lengthy amounts of time. As the final period expired, they passed up several easy shots, prioritizing clock-burning over putting points on the board. In hindsight, they would like to have one of those shots back. With seconds remaining in the game, Newsome came up with a big steal and were able to set Mackey up for the game tying three pointer as time expired with the score knotted at a measly 34 points per team. During the overtime, the Wildcat's again scored first, and again, attempted to end the game with a two point lead. A Newsome steal culminated in freshman Dylan Bridges third three of the night to give the Wolves a one point lead. Another steal resulted in a successful pair of free throws by sophomore Trent Mackey, the night's only Wolf in double figures with 10 points. Wharton's chances ended when Samal Shepherd streaked out of nowhere to intercept a pass at half-court, resulting in a foul and a free throw with 2 seconds left for the final score of 40-36. The Wolves now take a break in the action for finals and Christmas, returning to the court at Ridgewood in New Port Richey for some holiday action on December 29.
