Basketball season never really seems to end, but this week is probably the ultimate week for travel basketball. The best travel teams of the classes of 2010 and 2011 converge this week from around the nation to Orlando for two tournaments, the AAU Super Showcase and AAU Nationals. These are two of the main recruiting events of the year, and almost all NCAA Division I schools will be represented. The top head coaches in the nation will be onhand, sometimes even at the most farflung venues.  Three Wolves are fortunate enough to participate in these events. Trent Mackey is performing with the Florida Elite in the 16U/Sophomore division.  Samal Shepherd is participating with the Florida Elite and Jake Hodges with the Brandon Bolts in the 17U/Junior division.

While the complete schedule can be found at the AAU Website, here is a rundown of our Newsome Player's pool play schedules.

Trent MacKey: Trent's Florida Elite 16u team has already defeated Zero Tolerance 59-22 and Southfield Transition 60-48. They continue action today against DC Assault Blue in the Milkhouse at 11:20. Bracket play will run through through Saturday, at which time Nationals commence. In Nationals, the Elite begin pool play at 9:15 PM at Celebration High School, continue Sunday at 2:30 against Southfield Transition. They complete pool play Monday at 8:30 AM at Disney's Wide World of Sports in the Milkhouse against the Florida Rams.

Samal Shepherd: Samal's Florida Elite 17u opens Super Showcase Friday at 8:30 AM in the Milkhouse against a familiar opponent, the Gulfcoast Rams. They continue that afternoon at 6:25 against Kids First at Orlando Sportscenter (Champion's). They finish Super Showcase Saturday at 12:45 against the Boston Warriors at Celebration High School. Immediately following Super Showcase bracket play, the Elite will go right back into action Monday at Noon versus the Philly Pride at Poinciana High School.  At 9:15 PM, they will return to Disney to take on Shining Star Sports-White at Josten's center.  They conclude pool play Tuesday at 2:40 PM against the Georgia Stars-White across the sidewalk at the Milkhouse. Depending on how they do, they may continue bracket play through Saturday.

Jake Hodges: Jake's Brandon Bolts 17u team begins Super Showcase action Friday at 8:30 AM at Poinciana High against the South Jersey Select. At 5:00 they will face the Michigan Mavericks at Orlando Sports Center (formerly Champion's). On Saturday morning at 8:30 they compete against the Expressions Elite at Disney's Milkhouse. Following bracket play, they open Nationals Monday at 12:45 PM in the Milkhouse against Team Breakdown. They will have their work cut out for them, as Breakdown has won Nationals the past two years.  While Breakdown features the Nation's top prospect, Florida's own Brandon Knight, he is rumored to be out with an injury. The team will continue action at 6:40 PM against the Nolan Richardson AR Mustangs at Olympia High School. They will wind up pool play Tuesday at 1:20 against Virginia Storm Blue back at the Josten's center in Disney's Wide World of Sports. Bracket play commendes Wednesday, and depending on performance continues through Saturday.

Good luck to Trent, Samal and Jake as they face the nation's best this week in Orlando!
