Newsome rolled to an easy district win last night over the East Bay Indians by a score of 59-25. The Wolves raced to a 37-15 halftime lead. Although coach Jon Mackey went to his bench frequently in both the 2nd and third quarters, the Wolves extended their lead to 57-23 in the third quarter. Early in the fourth the running clock was started, and the team rolled on to a 59-31 victory. Samal Shepherd and Jake Hodges led the scoring effort for the Wolves with 17 and 18 points respectively, while Cody Dowd and Jamel Gist, who had a crowd pleasing get-out-of-my-gym block early in the game added 8 and 9. Velson Sinord led the Indians with 6. The Wolves extend their season's record to 16-6, 8-2 in district play. There are two remaining district Games. On Wednesday, January 20 Newsome travels to Armwood for a district contest. The following Friday will find the Wolves visiting Tampa Bay Tech for their final district action. Tusday, January 26 marks senior night, the final regular season home game for Wolves Seniors Shawn Boone, Cody Dowd, Jake Hodges, Ron Noble and Samal Shepherd. If this were not exciting enough, they will be visited on that night by the archrival Bloomingdale Bulls. The regular season will be capped off by visits to Plant and Lennard.
