As we enter the homestretch of the season, the Newsome Wolves know exactly what they have to do to win the top seed in the district tournament. They play a grueling three game set in a four day period.  First they must travel to Seffner Tuesday and beat the Armwood Hawks, then return home on Friday and defeat the Tampa Bay Tech Titans in their final home game of the season. And in between, they can't forget about the Wednesday night matchup with the Lennard Longhorns.

Historically, both of these teams have posed problems for Newsome.  Last year, the Wolves split with the Hawks in the regular season, and then lost to them again in the district tournament.  This year Armwood is led by 6'4" senior Rashad Davis.  Davis averages 18 points per game.  From the minute he hits the court, he is obviously the team leader and a true baller.  He is ably assisted by 6'4" junior DJ Jackson, who scores just under 10 points per game and blocks an amazing 6 shots per game.

It is hard to know what to expect from the Hawks, as they have been a very streaky team this year.  They split with TBT, spanking Tech 61-36 on the road and then losing by one at home.  They also defeated a very good Wharton Wildcat team twice, and played a very respectable game against Bloomingdale, losing by 4.  Unfortunately, they have also suffered a couple of embarassing losses, including a one point loss to the Riverview Sharks.

In the first meeting of the two teams, Newsome was able to control almost every aspect of the game.  On that night, in addition to outstanding nights from some of the usual suspects, freshman Dylan Bridges had a big 12 point performance for the Wolves.  With the exception of Rashad Davis, who scored 20 points that evening, no Hawk was able to garner more than four points as Newsome finished the night with a 73-41 victory.  You can rest assured that the Hawks remember that night well and will be planning on exacting some revenge Tuesday night.
