After losing the first game of the season to Durant and trailing a very youthful Brandon team by ten at halftime, some of the Newsome parents speculated that this could be a very long season. It has indeed been the longest season ever enjoyed by Newsome High basketball fans, as the team excelled on the court. They came back to win the second half of that Brandon game by 20 points and continued to win game after game as they set a record for wins with 20, won the top seed in districts, advanced to the district title game and thereby on to regional play. They were able to beat every team in the district save King. After that opening game loss to Durant, only two teams were able to defeat the Wolves, King and Ridgewood. The season ended tonight with a 71-36 loss at Ridgewood. As is the nature of an all-inclusive tournament system, only one 5A team gets to finish the season with a win. Good luck King, represent District 5A-8 well. Thanks for the good times, Andy Suslavich, Charles Murphy, Steve MacNeil, and Zach Larsen. Go with God, and continue to strive to do your best in all that you do. It was a great season, and we look forward to even better seasons to come!
