The first week of December began Monday with a visit to Allie Turley's Brandon Eagles and a nine point win, continued Thursday with an exuberating eleven point victory over Josh Chapin's rival Bloomingdale Bulls and culminated with a visit to Gaither on Saturday. In the latest outing, the Wolves jumped out on Dwayne Olinger's Gaither Cowboys with a full-court press that resulted in a 6-0 lead in the first minute. After a quick Gaither timeout and adjustment, the Wolves defense continued to stymie the Cowboys offense, but the Wolves were unable to score themselves, resulting in an incredibly low first quarter score of just 6-5. The Cowboys would continue to claw themselves back into the game playing a no-holds-barred physical game. Through the liberal use of elbows and strong grips on Wolves jerseys, they were able to knot the score half-time score at a meager 17 points apiece. In the third quarter, the Wolves found ways to get the ball into the hoop, more than doubling their score. Through a mixture of quick baskets off the pressure defense and a patient, careful offense, they netted 21 points to build a ten point lead in the period. In the fourth quarter, neither team was able to accomplish much offensively as Newsome stretched their lead out to a 46-34 victory. Charles Murphy led all scorers with 13 points, followed by Samal Shepherd with 12. There is another busy week ahead as the Wolves will again play three games. Monday the team travels to Freedom to take on coach Randy Grenon's Patriots at 6:45. Thursday, coach Sam Lanier will bring his highly rated King Lions, featuring D-1 signee Toarlyn Fitzpatrick into the wolves den for a 6:45 PM rendezvous. Finally, on Saturday at 2:30, Newsome will travel up 75 to Bruce B Downs for the second time in the week to face coach Dave Bastian's Wharton Wildcats.
