As predicted, the Armwood Hawks were determined to present bigger problems for the Wolves than they did in their prior meeting. Behind another strong scoring night from Rashad Davis (19 points), with assistance from guard Chris Ortiz, who added 10 points, Armwood challenged Newsome last night. Late in the third quarter, the Hawks made a run that closed the gap to 1 point with just seconds in the period. That was as close as they got in the game, however, as the Wolves closed out with a 61-52 victory. Early in the game, Trent MacKey handled the scoring, but as the game wore on, the Wolves repeatedly turned to Samal Shepherd, who with 33 points led all scorers. The Wolves begin their final homestand tonight against the Lennard Longhorns and complete their home schedule Friday night for their final district contest. In that game, Newsome will face the Tampa Bay Tech Titans, who currently are tied for third in the district. The Titans have been somewhat inconsistent of late, having defeated Bloomingdale but also having lost to Brandon. The Wolves are currently 17-4 (15-4 "official") overall and 11-2 in district with a total of four regular season games remaining.
