On Wednesday evening the Newsome High School Boys Basketball team heads to King High School for a challenge that could hold major implications for the final district standings. Newsome is in first place with a 9-1 record, followed closely by King with a record of 7-3. All three of King's losses came in the form of forfeits for the use of a fifth year senior in games that King won on the court by an average 39 point margin. In the first meeting of these two teams, King came up the victor by four points after a controversial no-call with three seconds remaining gave them the ball. In that 48-44 victory, sophomore Reshard Brown played an outstanding game for the Lions, scoring 16 points including sinking 8 of 8 clutch free throws. For the season, King is led by well-regarded 6'7" D-1 Georgia Southern signee Toarlyn Fitzpatrick with 14 points a game, but is a very well balanced team with a lot of players sharing the load. A lot has changed since that game, but one thing has not. Each team has reeled off eight straight district victories. Both teams have a lot of talent and both will give all their effort to earn that district crown Wednesday night.
