For the first 4 to 5 minutes of the game, it looked like neither team would be capable of winning  this game.  Finally at the 3:02 mark of the first quarter, Jake Hodges hit a layup that gave Newsome the lead for good at only 4-3.  From then on the Wolves found the basket more and more frequently, taking a 34-16 lead into the locker room at halftime behind a balanced attack of 8 points apiece from Charles Murphy, Samal Shepherd, and Hodges.

In the third quarter, the Wolves broke the game wide open, scoring 27 points in the period to take a 61-29 lead.  Shepherd and Hodges did most of the damage, scoring 11 and 10 respectively.  The Wolves then coasted on the running clock through most of the fourth quarter.  For the game, Hodges led all scorers with 22, Shepherd added 19 and freshman Dylan Bridges 12.  For the Hawks, Rashad Davis led the team with 20 points.  No other Hawk had more than 4.

The win, coupled with King's 62-58 win over Bloomingdale, puts Newsome in sole possession of first place in district 5A-8 with a 5-1 record.  In that game, Callum Townsend went down early with an injury to the same knee he injured last spring.  The extent of the injury is unknown and we can only hope he is back and in top form nine days from today when the Wolves travel to Bloomingdale.  The Bulls now stand at 4-2 in the district while King, although undefeated on the court, stands in a third place tie with Wharton at 3-3.

The Wolves return to action Friday in another district matchup at Tampa Bay Tech.
