First Place Wolves Get No Respect

Today's St Petersburg Times featured an article on King High School's boy basketball team in sports and Bloomingdale's team in the weekly Brandon Times section.  The Tampa Tribune ranks King fourth and Bloomingdale fifth. Neither paper appears to be aware that there is a Newsome High School boys basketball team.

What's wrong with that?  What has Newsome done to deserve notice?  Only winning games.  With one game remaining before the half-way point of district play, Newsome is in first place in district 5A-8, one game ahead of Bloomingdale and TBT and two ahead of fourth place King.  For some reason, both papers appear to like the second and fourth place teams better.

Grumbling aside, it is time for the Wolves to get out there and take care of business tonight against Adrian Johnson's scrappy second place Tampa Bay Tech Titans, a very good team that has been somewhat inconsistent of late.  Tech is currently tied for second with Bloomingdale with a 4-2 district record that includes a 9 point win over Wharton and a forfeit victory over King which was lost on the floor by a whopping 45 points.  Tech is led in scoring by a pair of sharpshooting guards, junior LaCarlton Nelson and senior Devron Drayton at 17 and 14 ppg.  Expect the Titans to make it a high tempo game with lots of points in transition.
